I marked my code as 'may need polishing' because i thought someone could come with a better algorithm. The 'needs-review' tag might indeed be appropriate, though perhaps the 'needs' felt too strong.
Incidentally, I found a bug, now fixed. The current version should be fine, unless someone comes with a more efficient algorithm.
