The Java 2 Standard Edition is a specification for the usual Java distribution. It contains the runtime environment for Java (JRE) a separate Java Development Kit (JDK) with compiler and utilities and an API library. Besides the SE there are a Mobile Edition (ME) and a Enterprise Edition.
