My name is Mike Mol. I founded Rosetta Code, contributed the first tasks and examples, went on a promotion drive, and now primarily provide guidance, administrative and hosting services and maybe a line of code here and there. Rosetta Code was an idea I'd had during a Christmas vacation, before I'd heard of other programming chrestomathy sites.

Parsleyfirefly is my fianceewife. I program for fun and profit. My native locale is en-us.

Thoughts
(These aren't dictumsdicta, just what I've been thinking. Writing them here to let others see them and ponder them as well. Replies ought to go in a talk page somewhere.)
Task differentiation
I understand that:
Line 122 ⟶ 116:
Not knowing the terminology behind the problem, it's difficult for me to write a task in order to get an illustration of it. Not knowing how to do it in the first place, it's vastly more difficult to write a task; I can't write any seed examples, and I can't explain what I'm looking for. In fact, this is now the chief reason I don't write tasks any more. Anything I want to do, but don't know how, I don't know how to ask.
: As it turns out, from my own experience and from watching successful and unsuccessful attempts by others, the solution appears to be "create the task, and work in good faith with the people attempting to get clarification so they can implement it properly." --Michael Mol 15:24, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
:Hi Short Circuit: I went to File list and discovered that all file uploads are blocked since 6/2/2016, even admins have no uploads. Is it sort of technical glitch? Or result of fighting spam too hard?? I'm planning 2 new tasks with 4 pictures. Without picture uploads it is useless. Another interesting issue: Why nobody complains? --AnatolV 01:22, 16 July 2016 (UTC)

Entry-level
Rosetta Code has a significant problem, right now, in things not being easy to find or learn coming from a limited knowledge base. I wanted to learn about generators late last week, and wanted to use a comparison of Python and Perl 6 in order to understand the core concept--and I didn't know how to find them on RC. I had to ask in the IRC channel in order to find what I was looking for. Now, I'm not a newbie to programming, but I'm certainly a novice in a large number of language idioms.

I want to go through and implement each of Luminance-HDR's tonemapping operators as tasks. Someday, I'll get around to rewriting them to use OpenCL. It seems like most of the CPU time spent is performing operations on matrices. --Michael Mol 15:28, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

ProofTalk issuesPage Protection Glitch
Your User_talk:Short_Circuit is currently protected against editing, halting the current anti-spam discussion which had started there. The Protection Log currently indicates that this went into place in 2013 (despite much more recent comments there). I do not know if this is some glitch that will clear itself up or if manual action is needed. On a related note, it would be nice if we could see the email domain name for accounts deleted for spamming. --Rdm (talk) 00:37, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

I have had a simple statement: that a computer implementation of an infinite type can represent only a finite number of distinct values (and, therefore, must fail to satisfy a set of axioms which require an infinite set of distinct values) removed, twice -- and without justification -- from the Proof task. Therefore, I am removing myself from the discussion, and will not be posting on this site until after either (a) the removal is explained to my satisfaction, or (b) the issue is explicitly described in some other fashion (where differences between implementations can be judged on their merits rather than because of some system which cannot be included in the task description). --Rdm 13:23, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

: I had the same problem, I resorted to using an e-mail.   -- Gerard Schildberger (talk) 06:12, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
Here's a (somewhat longwinded) attempt at stating my point of view on this issue: http://r-nd-m.blogspot.com/2012/05/glib-types.html --Rdm 19:52, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
: Slack is not run. I suggest to remove from RosettaCode page. (CalmoSoft)
: I'll get at reading that as soon as I can. I did go back and read the talk page for Proof, and it sounded to me like part of the problem was people talking past each other. I could see ways to mitigate and try to correct the issue, but as I'm still getting back on my feet after a honeymoon/vacation where I was largely incommunicado, and as I have a backlog of major RC-related issues at home and on the server to deal with, I haven't had the time to wade in. --Michael Mol 20:25, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
