Talk:TL;DR

From Rosetta Code

This is draft because I'm not even sure it needs to exist or not. It just struck me as a handy thing to have.

I have populated it with a bunch of examples, but claim no expertise in most of the languages, so editing them is encouraged to improve accuracy.

Interesting idea for a task but it must avoid anything that might be construed as "this language is better than that language" or "this other language is old-hat" or some other derogatory comment. --Tigerofdarkness (talk) 19:22, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
I agree and have modified the description of the task accordingly. --GordonCharlton (talk) 21:32, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
The recently added F# entry goes entirely against that, and is not a good or useful description of the language. Better pickings perhaps at [1] --Petelomax (talk) 21:11, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
Daft OK but it isn't a programming task!--Nigel Galloway (talk) 15:53, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
Did you mean "Draft"?
This type of page is always useful to have, but like Language_Comparison_Table it should have neither {{draft task}} nor {{task}}, and perhaps it should cross-link to that. Note that it should not have any =={{header|lang}}== either, I think, but can/shd instead have == [[lang]] ==. --Petelomax (talk) 21:11, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
A better solution may be to simply replace {{draft task}} with {{DeprecatedTask}} - see Loop structures. --PureFox (talk) 17:37, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
Now that I see it, that page could do with quite a bit of cleanup, not only by moving things to their proper pages so the whole thing can be deleted, but also by replacing the outdated lang tags with syntaxhighlight ones. Petelomax (talk) 23:29, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
Crosslinking to Language_Comparison_Table makes a lot of sense to me - I have done that. Maybe leave it as a draft task for a while (my thinking is that the more entries it has, the more useful it will be, and tasks appear on people's radars) and deprecate it later or make it Category:Encyclopedia like Language_Comparison_Table? --GordonCharlton (talk) 10:07, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
By now "appearing on people's radar" is probably wishful thinking, since it would be lost in a sea of 1,600+ tasks for most languages anyway. I've replaced the headers as I suggested above, let's see if that helps the stats. Petelomax (talk) 23:26, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
You beat me to it by a day. I just came here to do that! :-) GordonCharlton (talk) 09:22, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
Well, it appears to have fixed the stats issue. --Petelomax (talk) 19:24, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
