Ambiguity

The wikipedia page is unclear about what should happen when two "atoms" are side by side and a beam would hit one of them if not deflected by the other. We should probably assume that the deflection happens before the other atom would be hit. But, after being deflected once, it's not completely clear what the next deflection should be:
